Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan insists on doing his own thing as the host of the super-duper game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' than ape its illustrious former anchor mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan .
"With all humility, I will do it my way. Please allow me a chance to be me and respect me for that." This is what SRK had to say on being the chosen one to succeed Bachchan, while talking to the media in New Delhi.
Asked whether he would be able to match Bachchan in style and poise, rather "fit into his shoes," SRK said: "They are too big for me. I am too small for them."
But he was quick to add that it was the show's concept that made it so popular in as many as 106 countries. "Obviously, as time goes by, anchors change. I am not a permanent person, may be."
SRK said he will bring in his personality to the show but "maintain the beauty of Amitabh."
SRK, who has been signed on for two series or roughly 100 episodes for an undisclosed sum, is set to don the mantle of the quizmaster from January 2007.
"Shah Rukh is undoubtedly our reigning King of Indian cinema. His wit, charm, energy and style, coupled with the rock solid foundation of the show, will come together to give audiences an extraordinary TV viewing experience," Star Entertainment CEO Sameer Nair said.
Siddhartha Basu of Synergy Communication, the production house for the show, said SRK was "never the second choice to Bachchan but the next alternative."
Bachchan, for whom KBC served as the much-required catalyst to boost sagging professional fortunes in 2000, called it quits due to poor health and the TV network said it supported and respected his decision.
KBC will offer a mega prize money of Rs 2 crore to a contestant who answers 15 correct questions, and Star and Synergy said they add "some new things" to the format of the show in the new season with SRK.
Asked whether the re-entry into television would be at the cost of films, SRK said he was equally conscious to his career in cinema. "I do three films in a year and each film takes about 80-90 days. I still have a lot many days for this show," he said, adding: "I never went away from the small screen."
SRK said the "intelligence of the show" as well as its people-centric format were reasons that prompted him to take it up. "Through this, I can be interactive and will be able to meet people. I can come a lot closer to my audiences," he said, adding that he would make an effort to be a "loving friend" of the participants to make them comfortable.
SRK has had a sneak preview of KBC when he was invited as a guest on the show. Asked whether he would like to invite Bachchan to his show, he said: "I will go on bended knees to invite him."

2nd November 1965. In New Delhi's Talwar Nursing Home, to parents Mir Taj Muhammad and Lateef Fatima, was born a young boy. For the family, that lived in Rajinder Nagar, a middle class locality in the national capital, it was time to rejoice and celebrate the newly born.
When he was just four years of age, Shah Rukh happened to throw a rock at a neighborhood boy because of which the latter's teeth broke. Late at night that day, the child's father came to the house in an inebriated state while wielding a knife. Shah Rukh's father coolly opened the door and when this man threatened to kill his son for what he had done, he crosschecked with Shah Rukh as to whether or not he had committed the act of mischief. When the child confessed, the dad asked him to go out and explain himself to the man who was not only drunk but also armed. Shah Rukh had to go outside and apologize for his deed.
Shah Rukh had won the Raman Subramanyam Award in Class X (1982-83) for character, all round performance in studies, sports and extra curricular activities and the Sword of Honour in Class XII (1984-85) for the Best all round performance, loyalty, obedience, integrity and sportsmanship.
The college where he studied was Delhi University's Hans Raj College, and Shah Rukh did his Economics Honours from the institution between 1985-88. When Hans Raj celebrated its Golden Jubilee, the college gave away 17 shields to its alumni who had excelled in their lives and professions and Shah Rukh was one of them.
After graduating from Hans Raj, he went on to join Jamia Milia Islamia's Mass Communications Research Centre to do his masters in filmmaking and journalism.
Shah Rukh had a solid theatre background and had worked with an institution like Barry John in New Delhi.
Shah Rukh was, in fact uncomfortably possessive about his lady love (Gauri), whom he lovingly calls Gaurima. So much so that he would pick up a quarrel with her even if she let her hair down…literally. Finally, Gauri lost her cool and without informing Shah Rukh, came down to Bombay. Shah Rukh followed her to the huge city and kept looking for her around the beaches because of his awareness that she was attracted to them in a big way. Later, a cab guy advised him to go to Aksa Beach and Gorai Beach. After searching frantically, he managed to track her down when she was standing in the water! Isn’t that filmi?

Both the children, Aryan (13th November 1997) and Suhana (23rd May 2000) have been taught to revere the co-existence of Ganpati and Allah in the Khan household. How wonderfully they are being brought up manifests itself in the story that when Shah Rukh was having a critical neck surgery, Aryan went to the temple and said an Islamic prayer so that his father could get well soon.
Shahrukh Khan is a Muslim but celebrates Diwali and Christmas along with Eid every year. He keeps a Lakshmi Pooja every year in his office and at home. He even has a Christmas tree at home. From all the festivals Shahrukh’s kids love Christmas the most.
Shahrukh Khan has the holy Quran Bismillah kept along with the idols of Indian Gods at his place. His kids pray to both the God’s simultaneously.

People think I am a gay: SRK
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who likes to sprinkle his sentences with 'InshaAllah' (god willing), says he likes to fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
"I make it a point to fast at least three to four times during Ramadan," told Shah Rukh, who was recently in the capital to promote his film "Don".
But his hectic schedule does not permit him to fast the entire month.
"Because of my hectic schedule, I cannot fast the entire month. I do a lot of travelling, so it is tough. Besides, of late I have been on medication, so I have not been fasting," added Shah Rukh.
In an another candid interview, Shahrukh Khan talked about the gossips he hears about him. In this episode of Bollywood quotes, lets hear what the King Khan has to say.
King Khan reveals : “People think that I’m a gay. Recently somebody asked me if I’m still in touch with my feminine side. They ask me why did I do the Lux ad and things like that. SRK to Play Bad Guy in Dhoom 3
Shahrukh makes ‘bad’ look ‘cool’. I’ve been saying it ever since ‘Don’ promos hit the air. Now, ‘Don’ is about to unveil his no-holds-barred villainous act soon but there’s more good news for SRK fans. According to a well placed source, King Khan will be essaying the bad-guy role in ‘Dhoom 3’. Bollywood is really getting confident when it comes to sequels it seems. For even before the release of ‘Dhoom 2’ the plans are already underway for ‘Dhoom 3’.
Another interesting bit of news is regarding Rishi and Neetu Kapoor’s hot looking son Ranbir Kapoor. He is currently wrapping up his debut venture in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ but his performance level has impressed the Yashraj banner so much that they’ve signed a three film contract with the Kapoor scion. The evergreen Rishi Kapoor was bestowed the Maha Style Icon of the Year award. Preity Zinta & Shahrukh Khan were voted the Most Stylish Person in Film’s category in the male and female categories respectively, with their movie Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna also winning Most Stylish Film.

Shah Rukh-Aamir together ?
Producer Bobby Bedi has dismissed reports that Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan will be seen together in a celluloid version of the mythological saga Mahabharata and says nothing has been finalised so far.
"Talks are still at a very early stage. The casting reports are just speculations and we have not yet arrived at any decision," Bedi, who is managing director of Kaleidoscope Entertainment.
Kaleidoscope Entertainment has produced films like "Bandit Queen", "Saathiya" and "Mangal Pandey".
The company has been contemplating a cinematic version of the Indian epic Mahabharata for quite some time, but it has not yet given final shape to the project - either in terms of the cast or the number of movies that will be made to retell the saga.
Said Bedi, "It is too early to talk. We might make one or two or even three. We are still in the process. We will let you know when we arrive at a decision."
If the speculation does finally come true, it would be the first time that the two top Khans would be sharing screen space.

Not only that, as per reports in a daily, Anjanna Kuthiala will shortly showcase new sketches of the star on November 22. She did a series of 20 paintings on the star last year. The new sketches aren't for sale unlike the rest of her paintings, she informed the daily.
She thinks Shahrukh is very witty, charming and instinctive. She further added that SRK has been her muse ever since she met him.
Her muse??? We guess he is a source of inspiration for many across the globe!

Dil Chahta Hai remake?
The guru is remaking SHOLAY. The chela has followed suit. Ramgopal Varma’s erstwhile assistant Rohit Jugraj [director of JAMES] is remaking the talked-about Farhan Akhtar film DIL CHAHTA HAI. At least that’s the speculation in the industry.
“Agreed, my next film is about female bonding and the plot revolves around three girls, but it’s not a remake of DIL CHAHTA HAI. Every two-hero film shouldn’t be mistaken as SHOLAY or a two-guy-one-girl love story can’t be a SAAGAR. It can be a HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM too,” Rohit enlightens.
So he’s not remaking DIL CHAHTA HAI? “Nahin, bilkul nahin! DIL CHAHTA HAI is a masterpiece, why should I tamper with it? My film looks at the relationship between three girls [Jhanvi, Ginny and Mansi], their bonding, the catfights, the sensitive moments, the ups and downs in a relationship… I am trying to understand women through my film,” he smiles.
Rohit hasn’t signed any actor yet, but the rumor mills are agog with the speculation that he has approached Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra for the roles in question. True? “I am talking to five actors currently, of which three will be finalized in due course. Yes, we did approach Lara for one of the roles, but her dates posed a problem. I wouldn’t like to reveal the names of the other actors right now since nothing is on paper yet,” he clarifies.
Roopesh Gohil, a Mumbai-based entrepreneur, will produce the film, which is expected to roll in February 2007 at an overseas destination.

In what seems like a tongue-in-cheek homage to the spirit of sportsmanship, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been cast as the coach of a girls' hockey team in a film by "Ab Tak Chhappan" fame director Shimit Amin.
We have seen films about cricket and football, so a film on hockey comes as no surprise. In fact, Vivek Agnihotri is currently scripting a film on football.
Amin is seriously enthused about the film.
"It's a dying art form. While we continue to go into ecstasy over cricket we hardly seem to realise that hockey is a true-blue Indian game and we need to give it the respect it deserves," he told.
The reticent moviemaker admits he doesn't play any sport.
"But I watch a lot of them. I've never played any sport. And I knew nothing about hockey until I researched for my film. I feel a detachment from the subject always provides added insights into the film. If you look at Hollywood they invite directors from the outside to make films about their themes and culture.
"Sam Mendes, who made the very American 'American Beauty' is British. Likewise, when I came to India from the US to make 'Ab Tak Chhappan' for Ram Gopal Varma, I knew as much about the workings of the Indian police force and 'encounter' killings as I did about hockey. The challenge to me is making a film that allows me to go into unexplored territory."
The director has cast girls as hockey players in the team.
"The girls have to be sporty and swift hockey players. It isn't easy. The game is no longer that popular. It requires physically fit players. And it looks like a struggle ahead to get girl players in place before we go into production."
Jaideep Sahni has scripted this very unusual film.
"This is a very exciting time to be a film director in Hindi cinema. Last year we had several films that broke the mould. Once in a while something comes along to push the envelope. After 'Ab Tak Chhappan' I wanted to make a film that was completely Indian in spirit."
Amin is all praise for his producers.
"I'm so glad I came to Yash Raj Films for my second film. After Ram Gopal Varma, I needed a producer who would provide me with complete creative freedom. I'm not the least surprised if I withdraw into my own work-shell and not react to such stories. I'd rather be seen than heard."
The director says he loves the portrayal of families in films.
"I love the idea of families staying together, interacting through crisis and drama. In fact, the film is also about family ties."

'SRK-Still Reading Khan', a book chronicling Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan 's personal and professional achievements will be released on October 11.
The book is written by SRK's close friend and television scriptwriter Mushtaq Sheikh.
Mushtaq has over the years built close friendships with the film community and says that he has come to regard several colleagues as an extended family. "One such valued member is Shah Rukh. The close proximity with Shah Rukh's world and the firm ties of friendship and as a fellow traveller for a good part of our lives, led to destiny choosing me to be one who would chronicle the story of his journey," the writer said.
"There's always been a patriarch for every field. He leads, people follow. He takes new paths - praised if he's successful, derided if he fails. But then somebody has to do the job. Somebody has to invent for the others to reinvent. Somebody has to stand up for our fifty six year old philosophy - for the people, by the people, to the people. Shah Rukh Khan did just that. He invades areas where no actor has ever been," he added.
“Shah Rukh Khan had stepped into the film world as an outsider, a young man bereaved from the loss of his parents, seeking solace, work and passion in an alien world. Shah Rukh Khan with Anubhav Sinha?
Shah Rukh Khan is now busy till September 2008. After he is through with Yash Raj Films’ Shimit Amin directed 'Chak De India', he will shoot for Farah Khan's 'Om Shanti Om' and then he is committed to an Anubhav Sinha project.
According to King Khan himself, "Anubhav and I are interacting on the script regularly."
His acceptance of Shimit Amin's movie and Anubhav Sinha's new venture is a clear indication that that SRK is willing to work with directors outside his friends' circle.

Shahrukh Khan- The modest Samaritan!
Shahrukh Khan has retained his humility, despite being one of the biggest superstars in the country. Unlike most people, this modest actor doesn't go tom-toming about his social endeavors.
Just recently he was in news for the unfortunate mishap that happened outside his bungalow. His business manager informed a daily that the actor has sponsored a huge amount to the bereaved family of the guard who was shot. He will provide financial assistance to his family. Though she didn't disclose the amount, it is learnt that the family was more than happy with the arrangement.

Shah Rukh trashes Hollywood!
The presence of Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Karan Johar notwithstanding, a press conference here ahead of the screening of "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), was rather sparsely attended.
Whether this was due to the 9.30 a.m. slot or otherwise, the press meet at the Sutton Place Hotel attracted more shutterbugs than pen pushers and more North America-based Indian freelancers than international journos.
Even so, the three high-profile men on the panel were in their elements as they fielded questions about their film as well as about Bollywood's position in the global context.
Both Karan and Shahrukh Khan stressed that it was crucial for Bollywood to constantly participate in international film festivals in order to further its overall strategy to go global.
Karan said: "I do not come to a major international platform like this because of any immediate commercial reason. Whether I am in Toronto or in Cannes, my primary intention is to sensitise the world not just to my own film but to Indian cinema as a whole.
"We have a unique format of storytelling and we should be proud of it. But it is always a good idea to look for global exposure for the beautiful movies that we make," said the super-successful Bollywood director.
Shahrukh said: "I have been to a few international film festivals. It is not enough to merely take a particular film to a global audience. It is important for us to explain to the market why Bollywood films continue to thrive despite growing competition from Hollywood.
"Conversely, we should also try and understand how global producers, distributors and exhibitors operate and tell them that we are ready to do business with them."
But both Karan and Shahrukh insisted that Bollywood must not sacrifice its internationally recognised USP - the song and dance and high drama-driven narrative style.
"We should find our place in the world without sacrificing our intrinsic character," Shahrukh asserted.

According to our sources , two climaxes have been shot by Farhan Akhtar for his upcoming Shah Rukh Khan-Priyanka 'Diwali-Eid' release 'Don' . Shah Rukh and Sushmita in 'Dulha Mil Gaya'?
Though actors Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen are yet to sign on the dotted line, producer Viveck Vaswani seems set to cast them in his film 'Dulha Mil Gaya'.
Vaswani's Insight Productions will shoot this big budget film in Trinidad and Tobago, reports Bollywood Trade.
The first Indian film to be shot on the Carribean island may see some known cricket players, including Brian Lara. But Vaswani has brushed aside reports that he was keen to cast Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in a small role as 'rumour'.
Vaswani who is all charged about the project said: 'The film has become the hottest title in the industry and we have been inundated with calls from producers asking us to part with the title.'
The film marks the directorial debut of Mudassar Aziz, writer of Tanuja Chandra's 'Zindaggi Rocks' and Mahesh Bhatt's 'Showbiz'.
'Mudassar is keen to work with Sushmita after 'Zindaggi Rocks'. We are planning to meet Sushmita,' said Vaswani, who is just back from Trinidad after filming probable locations.
Talking about Sushmita he said: 'I have known Sushmita since her first film 'Dastak' which was released 10 years ago. I have been closely following her career since.'

It may be recalled that Vaswani had cast Shah Rukh in the early years of his career for 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' which was directed by Aziz Mirza. The film was Mirza's directorial debut and made him the most sought after director and also boosted Shah Rukh's career.
Vaswani has written the story of 'Dulha Mil Gaya' and describes it as a warm and witty film set in Trinidad that will have many firsts to its credits.
'It is one of the finest stories I have written and will be the most promising directorial debut of 2007, with Mudassar doing the screenplay, dialogues, lyrics and the direction. He is an incredible powerhouse of talent,' he said.
Vaswani has decided to release the film in May 2007 and has already struck a deal for international rights of the film.

Vaswani's Insight Productions will shoot this big budget film in Trinidad and Tobago, reports Bollywood Trade.
The first Indian film to be shot on the Carribean island may see some known cricket players, including Brian Lara. But Vaswani has brushed aside reports that he was keen to cast Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in a small role as 'rumour'.
Vaswani who is all charged about the project said: 'The film has become the hottest title in the industry and we have been inundated with calls from producers asking us to part with the title.'
The film marks the directorial debut of Mudassar Aziz, writer of Tanuja Chandra's 'Zindaggi Rocks' and Mahesh Bhatt's 'Showbiz'.
'Mudassar is keen to work with Sushmita after 'Zindaggi Rocks'. We are planning to meet Sushmita,' said Vaswani, who is just back from Trinidad after filming probable locations.
Talking about Sushmita he said: 'I have known Sushmita since her first film 'Dastak' which was released 10 years ago. I have been closely following her career since.'

It's true! Shah Rukh Khan sells
Just a year back there was a famous adage in Bollywood that either sex or Shah Rukh Khan sells at the box-office. While 'sex' is debatable, Shah Rukh surely sells.
The business figures of Shah Rukh's latest release Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna speak for themselves. The movie has become the biggest Bollywood opener at the box-office overseas. And in its third week since release, the film is still running to almost packed houses in many theatres in Delhi and Mumbai.
Though KANK is a multistarrer, SRK is the backbone of the movie. He is there from the opening reels right to the film's conclusion. It is to him the most footage is given. And, as expected, the fans of the superstar have immensely liked the film and his performance in it, no matter how some critics may have panned it.
Just to present some business figures, KANK has raked in an impressive amount of Rs. 31 crores in its run so far in the three major markets – US, UK and Australia.
Shah Rukh could not have hoped for a better resurgence after a long hibernation since the release of his film Paheli last year. While this year saw a good number of films featuring other no-less-talented stars, it is Shah Rukh who ends up stealing the thunder at the box-office.
And now, the deserving superstar is all geared up for another round in the coming months as Farhan Akhtar's Don readies for release in the Diwali weekend.
Judging by the movie's promos, it is going to be an adrenalin rushing thriller as Shah Rukh steps into the role immortalized by Amitabh Bachchan more than two decades ago.
At the 'Don' music launch in Mumbai recently, Shah Rukh gave his fans a teaser of what to expect from the movie when he delivered a few dialogues. The one that got the loudest applause was : Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin, namumkin bhi hai (To catch Don is not only difficult, it's impossible).
Well, the dialogue surely befits the superstar as far as the box-office earnings go.
